肠系膜下动脉（IMA）的第一个分支为左结肠动脉。左结肠动脉向横结肠远侧三分之一和整个降结肠供血。自IMA分出后，左结肠动脉走行于左输尿管、左精索内血管（男性）和腰大肌的前方，然后分为升段和降段。
