뒤통수엽의 구성 요소이다. 입쪽 경계는 새발톱고랑 위에서 쐐기소엽 겉질이 보이기 시작하는 첫째 관상 단면이었고 꼬리쪽 경계는 새발톱고랑이 보이는 마지막 단면이었다. 안쪽 경계는 뒤통수겉질과 마루겉질의 가장 안쪽 부분이었다. 위가쪽 경계는 마루뒤통수틈새였고 아래가쪽 경계는 새발톱주위겉질이었다(Christine Fennema-Notestine).
