Parte del sistema ventricular del encéfalo, que forma una única cavidad grande en la línea media del diencéfalo; se continúa con los ventrículos laterales a través del foramen interventricular y con el cuarto ventrículo a través del acueducto cerebral. (Maryann Martone).
