Die Vorderwurzeln enthalten efferente motorische Axone. Ähnlich wie die Hinterwurzeln setzen sich die Vorderwurzeln von der Wirbelsäule nach außen fort und treffen und vermischen sich an einer Stelle hinter dem Ganglion mit ihrer entsprechenden hinteren Nervenwurzel.
