Lớp trong cùng của màng não mềm, gồm một màng mỏng mảnh phủ sát bề mặt của não và tuỷ sống, và nằm dưới màng nhện. Khác với màng nhện, màng mềm đi vào các rãnh ở động vật có não nhiều nếp cuộn.
